Philadelphia Eagles: Matt Patricia may become ‘senior defensive assistant’

Matt Patricia apparently has a new job. The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly installing the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator as their new “senior defensive assistant. “

From offense back to defense – this is the path Matt Patricia is likely to take for the 2023 NFL season. As “ESPN” reports, the former Detroit Lions head coach will join the Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff led by head coach Nick Sirianni.

Officially, the Super Bowl contender has not yet confirmed Patricia’s installation, however, he said there are indications that it will happen.

Eagles: Matt Patricia unsuccessful last season with Patriots

“His resume obviously speaks for itself. With him, you have a great mind that has performed at the highest level. He gives you the ability to share ideas with the defensive staff and he also gives me another former head coach to share ideas with, which I think would be very helpful,” Sirianni said at a press conference Thursday.

Further, he added that it was “trending” toward working with Patricia.

Last season, Patricia, who spent many years of his coaching career in various defensive positions, served as offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots. However, the offense was tremendously hamstrung by quarterback Mac Jones, who also sought advice from outside the franchise, causing trouble.
