In addition to a bitter defeat, the Philadelphia Eagles also travelled back from New York with some injury worries. Quarterback Jalen Hurts could be forced to rest this weekend. His replacement is already scuffling his hooves.
Philadelphia/Munich – The season so far has not quite gone to the Philadelphia Eagles’ liking.
After the loss against the New York Giants, the next setback is looming: quarterback Jalen Hurts is suffering from an injury and could be out this weekend.
Philadelphia Eagles: Injury could slow down Jalen Hurts
As head coach Nick Sirianni told members of the media, Hurts suffered a sprained ankle in the 13-7 loss in the Big Apple. He left it open whether the 23-year-old will be able to take the field against the New York Jets on Sunday.
Just in case, the replacement is already being prepared for the game: Gardner Minshew, former playmaker for the Jacksonville Jaguars, could make his debut in an Eagles jersey in Week 13.
“These issues are on our minds at the moment. We have to weigh the situation with Jalen right now,” offensive coordinator Shane Steichen confirmed.
Jalen Hurts: The running game is working just fine
The following week, the Eagles finally get to go on the bye week they’ve been longing for, the extra week off would come in handy for Hurts. Against the Giants, the quarterback had his worst game of the season, coming off the field with a 17.1 passer rating (17/31, 129 yards, no touchdowns, three interceptions).

77 yards scored by Hurts on the ground, his injury is now expected to massively limit that ability. “We’re going to play the football we’ve shown on the field so far,” Steichen pointed to Hurts’ running ability, a trait Minshew also brings.
“We’ve been very effective in the run game so far, obviously we’ve got to get the passing game up to the same level now – that’s going to be our challenge. “
Philadelphia Eagles: Still room for improvement
While Philadelphia has the best running offense at 157.9 yards per game, there is noticeable room for improvement in the passing game. Hurts has 2435 yards and 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season. The 23-year-old ranks 28th league-wide in completion percentage and passer rating.
“We as coaches have to help him with that,” Steichen emphasises: “We’ve talked about those improvements, we’re looking ahead now and we want to correct the mistakes in the coming weeks. “
