“We are incredibly saddened by the news that the great Charley Taylor has passed away. Charley is a member of the Washington Ring of Fame and one of the most decorated players in franchise history. Charley was a great person and will be sorely missed by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Patricia and his family, ” Commanders owners Dan and Tanya Snyder said in an official statement.

In his first NFL season, the pass receiver secured the Rookie of the Year title, finishing his career as the all-time leader in receptions in 1977.

He still holds the franchise record for most touchdowns. After his active career, he worked as a scout and receivers coach for the East Coast team, and in 1984 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
