NFL shock: Martin had been suffering from mental health issues
According to his management company, Athletes First, Martin had been suffering from mental health issues for some time. According to ESPN, the 36-year-old had been disoriented prior to his death and had entered his neighbors’ house. This led to the police intervention.
Martin had his most successful time in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was later honored by the franchise as one of the 50 best players in club history for his achievements. After one last season with the then Oakland Raiders, the running back ended his career in 2018. In 84 games, Martin gained 5,356 yards and scored 30 touchdowns.
