Big payday for Saquon Barkley! After a historic season, the running back signs a new contract with the Philadelphia Eagles – for historic earnings.
The Philadelphia Eagles’ season was shaped by one player in particular: Saquon Barkley. The running back ran the competition into the ground and was the decisive man on the way to the Super Bowl.
In the final against the Kansas City Chiefs, the 28-year-old didn’t score a touchdown, but that was at most a small blemish given the Eagles’ dominant victory and his otherwise incredible season.
Barkley became only the ninth player in NFL history to break the 2,000-rushing-yards mark in a regular season and won the Offensive Player of the Year award for doing so. He was also named All-Pro.
After such an outstanding season, Barkley can now look forward to a new contract – and it’s a doozy. As reported by several US media outlets, the running back has signed a new two-year contract.
NFL: Saquon Barkley signed until 2028
The contract is worth a total of $41.2 million, with a whopping $36 million guaranteed. This makes Barkley the highest-paid running back in NFL history.
Just last year, Barkley, then a free agent, signed a three-year contract with the “Philly” that runs through 2026. The extension now keeps him under contract through 2028.
Barkley was picked second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. He quickly became a mainstay in the Big Apple, but then missed almost the entire 2020 season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.
After a strong 2022 season, he declined somewhat in 2023, which is why the Giants decided to let Barkley go when his contract expired.
