2022 Brock Purdy entered the NFL as “Mr. Irrelevant”. Now the 25-year-old has established himself in the league and is on the verge of a big payday.
With the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers secured the rights to Brock Purdy. After both backup quarterback Trey Lance and starter Jimmy Garoppolo were injured during the season, Purdy led the team to the NFC Championship Game.
A year later, the 49ers even made it to the Super Bowl with Purdy as their starting quarterback. However, they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. Last season, San Francisco missed the playoffs due to numerous injuries.
Nevertheless, Purdy can now look forward to a hefty pay raise.
As NFL reporter Jason La Canfora reports, the 49ers have presented their playmaker with a contract that could earn him around $45 million a year.
Because San Francisco has little financial leeway in the current offseason, the contract could be revised as early as next year. NFL insider Adam Schefter had already hinted that the Niners’ offer for Purdy might be somewhat below expectations.
Purdy himself and his agents would reportedly prefer a contract with annual earnings of around $50 million. This would make him one of the top 10 earners at the quarterback position.
