NFL: San Francisco 49ers desperate to keep Brandon Aiyuk

The Brandon Aiyuk situation with the San Francisco 49ers remains interesting

Is he staying? Will he be traded? The future of Brandon Aiyuk, who is entering the final year of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers in 2024, remains unclear.

In the meantime, however, those responsible for the franchise seem to be in agreement that the wide receiver should stay with the 49ers. As the “NFL Network” reports, general manager John Lynch and Co. are keen to extend the 26-year-old’s contract.

They see Aiyuk as the “key” to the five-time Super Bowl winner’s offense and are therefore keen to reach an agreement with him.

The decision to draft a new pass receiver in the first round of the 2024 draft, Ricky Pearsall, was therefore not made to draft a possible successor to Aiyuk.

Rather, the plan was always to keep the wide receiver who led the team in receiving yards (1,342) last season.

If the 49ers do manage to come to an agreement with Aiyuk on a contract extension, GM John Lynch would put his money where his mouth is. He recently stated on the “Pat McAfee Show”: “I’m doing everything in my power to keep our roster together. That is my goal.”

However, it remains unclear what Aiyuk staying in San Francisco would mean for the future of Deebo Samuel. The team’s second top receiver is also entering his final year and should also be retained.
