NFL – San Francisco 49ers: Christian McCaffrey out against the Jets – coach reveals reason

Running back Christian McCaffrey has been ruled out for the 49ers’ game against the New York Jets. Now the diagnosis has been announced

The San Francisco 49ers had to cope with some bitter news shortly before their commanding opening win against the New York Jets.

Superstar Christian McCaffrey was not fit in time after all and was only withdrawn from the squad 90 minutes before kick-off.

According to statements from the Niners camp before the game, there was hardly any doubt that the running back would be able to play.

Even McCaffrey himself had stated on Friday that he had no doubts about his participation. He hoped that he would also get the usual generous amount of playing time.

However, the 28-year-old, who has been struggling with calf and Achilles tendon problems since the start of the training camp, was obviously still too unwell.

McCaffrey with problems

Now head coach Kyle Shanahan has announced that the running back continues to suffer from a calf injury and Achilles tendinitis. An injury that could drag on for months. Bad news for the 49ers. It will have to be decided on a day-to-day basis when he is fit to play again.

“The problem comes and goes,” said the coach. “When something like this comes up, you have to be very careful. Christian is very diligent about this. If it was a playoff game, he’s made it very clear to me that he thinks he could have played.”

However, since it was not a playoff game, just the Week 1 game, the decision was made not to play. According to experts, with an injury like this, it would make sense for McCaffrey to make his comeback on natural grass.

The 49ers’ next game is on Sunday at the Minnesota Vikings – on artificial turf.
