49ers star Christian McCaffrey gives an update on his fitness status after a long injury spell.
Good news for all San Francisco 49ers fans: Christian McCaffrey is finally feeling “good” again. The running back has had a truly disastrous season.
Long-standing problems with his calf and Achilles tendon, as well as a posterior cruciate ligament injury, prevented “CMC” from playing more than four games for the Niners.
Since he was injured in training camp last year, the franchise is currently keeping a close eye on him. McCaffrey is currently working his way back to 100 percent so he can be available to the team as usual. In 2023, he was still one of the best players in the league, racking up 1,459 rushing yards, 21 touchdowns, and 2,023 scrimmage yards.
San Francisco 49ers: McCaffrey won’t miss OTA
The 29-year-old is motivated to get back to that level: “I spent a lot of time this offseason building a foundation and getting the basics down. I spent a lot of time recovering. I didn’t want to miss a single voluntary practice. I wanted to put myself in a position where I could train fully again, play football and be healthy so that I wouldn’t miss a day. And I’ve done that. Now I can start training fully again. I feel good.”
Since McCaffrey was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2017, he has always been a top player when healthy. Unfortunately, he is also considered very injury-prone.
“CMC” is entering his ninth NFL season and has changed his preparation for it: “A lot of people told me that as you get older, you should do less to take care of yourself. I think you have to find a middle ground. The older you get, the more you have to listen carefully and pay attention to how your body is doing and what it’s telling you. You put a lot of trust in the people around you. Your coach, the rehab people, the people on the field. You follow certain plans, and if you feel good doing that, then you trust the process.”
