NFL: Russell Wilson injures finger – Seattle Seahawks hope for speedy recovery

A loss of Russell Wilson would set the Seattle Seahawks’ plans far back this season. Head coach Pete Carroll, meanwhile, is hoping the quarterback’s healing abilities have saved him from long absences in the past.

Munich – This consistency of Russell Wilson in the NFL is almost uncanny: Since he became quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks, he has not missed a single game in his career as a starter.

Including this season, he has appeared in all 149 of the Seahawks’ regular-season games in ten seasons. Despite knee and ankle injuries in 2016, he started in every game then, too.

After the defeat against the Los Angeles Rams, doubts have now arisen for the first time as to whether the 32-year-old’s streak might not snap. He left the Thursday Night Game early due to a finger injury.

First diagnosis: “severely sprained finger “

Head coach Pete Carroll immediately commented on the health status of his playmaker after the game: “He has a badly sprained finger, which we have to examine further,” said the 70-year-old: “In terms of the injury, we have to work further,” he explained further.

“Russell [Wilson, amnesty] is one of the fastest healers of all time,” it continued: “He’ll do everything he can to get back as soon as possible.” The coach could not yet say whether and for how long the Seahawks might have to do without Wilson.

Just in case, he said he was somewhat reassured by the performance of back-up quarterback Geno Smith: “He did a great job. We were able to pull off everything we set out to do. Despite all that, he gave us a chance to win the game,” Carroll continued.

No comment from Wilson

The injured man himself had no comment on his injury after the game. After a quarterback press from Rams superstar Aaron Donald, Wilson’s finger buckled badly in the throwing motion, requiring immediate treatment.

While he did return to the field briefly in the interim, he remained on the sideline for the next drive. “He couldn’t hold onto the ball enough to throw it well,” Carroll explained.

With the Seahawks having already played on Thursday, Wilson now has ten full days to get back to fitness. In the Sunday Night Game in Week 6, the Pittsburgh Steelers come to Seattle. It would be immensely important for the “Hawks'” offence here if they can fall back on their most important player.
