NFL – Philadelphia Eagles: General Manager explains why A.J. Brown was not traded

There has been intense speculation recently about a trade involving A.J. Brown, but the star receiver has remained with the Philadelphia Eagles. General Manager Howie Roseman has now explained why this is the case.

A.J. Brown and the Philadelphia Eagles – it hasn’t always been a love affair recently.

The star receiver had recently been frustrated by what he considered to be his limited role in the Eagles’ offense. He appeared to demand a trade with a cryptic tweet, but then backtracked.

However, the Eagles couldn’t really be satisfied either. The 28-year-old had recently been far from the statistics he achieved in his early years in Philadelphia.

After Brown came to “Philly” via trade from the Tennessee Titans in 2022, he had three consecutive seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards. Currently, the 2024 Super Bowl champion is averaging just under 56 yards per game.

This is why there has been intense speculation about a trade recently.

Howie Roseman: You don’t trade great players

Now that the deadline has passed, it is clear that Brown will remain an Eagle. General Manager Howie Roseman explained to ESPN why this decision was made.

“When you’re trying to be a great team, it’s hard to trade great players. And A.J. Brown is a great player,” Roseman said.

It’s no coincidence that Brown is one of the team’s captains, Roseman continued: “He wears the ‘C’ on his jersey for a reason. He’s an important part of this team, this organization. He values winning, he cares about his teammates. I think when you have a team that wants to compete for a championship, you just don’t give up players like that.”

Trade deadline: No mega offer for A.J. Brown

Apparently, Roseman would only have been willing to negotiate if he received a mega offer for Brown. However, the Eagles did not receive such an offer by Tuesday’s trade deadline.

“I’m very happy to have him on our team and look forward to the second half of the season with him,” said the general manager.
