Several players were missing from the Philadelphia Eagles’ visit to the White House. Wide receiver A.J. Brown has now explained his decision.
It is something of an NFL tradition for the Super Bowl winners to visit the White House.
This year, several Philadelphia Eagles players were absent.

They missed the chance to meet President Donald Trump.
One of them was A.J. Brown. The wide receiver made it clear to the Philadelphia Inquirer that this was not a political statement and that he has nothing to do with politics.

There was a “personal matter” that was simply more important at the time.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had made it clear after the Super Bowl victory that the visit was voluntary. No one had to attend. Just like every year.
Many players took advantage of this and stayed away. Whether that was for personal, political, or whatever reasons is basically irrelevant.
They don’t have to explain themselves. Brown did so anyway.
