Köln (SID) – German professional footballer Mark Nzeocha has pulled off the first surprise in the NFL play-offs with the San Francisco 49ers. The German linebacker won 23-17 with the five-time Super Bowl champions at the Dallas Cowboys on Wildcard Weekend and can dream of a return to the Grand Final.
Nzeocha (31) had been activated for the game at short notice, but in the meantime his heart slipped in his pants: Because he hit the standing leg of the Dallas punter after an already failed offensive series of the Cowboys, the drive was allowed to continue.
In the end, it was still close enough for the 49ers because Dak Prescott made a mistake: Before what was supposed to be the last chance for a touchdown to win the game, the Cowboys quarterback failed to hand the ball to the referee team – time ran out and the game was over.
Quarterback superstar Patrick Mahomes then led the Kansas City Chiefs to an unchallenged 42-21 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He ended the career of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger after 18 years. In 2020, the Chiefs had defeated Nzeocha and the 49ers in the Super Bowl in Miami. On Sunday night, defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Tom Brady (44) easily cleared the first hurdle against the Philadelphia Eagles (31:15).
The divisional play-offs of the National Football League: Green Bay Packers – San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Los Angeles Rams/Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans – Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs – Buffalo Bills
