NFL – New York Giants: Rookie Jaxson Dart brimming with confidence – future face of the franchise?

The New York Giants have drafted Jaxson Dart. The rookie quarterback is making a confident impression at camp and seems ready for the future.

Jaxson Dart is the future of the New York Giants. At least, that’s the plan.

To avoid burning out the rookie, general manager Joe Schoen has brought in two experienced quarterbacks, Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, so that the 22-year-old can develop at his own pace.

Dart is appearing very confident in rookie camp. The first-round pick showed up for his first sessions adorned with a diamond necklace.

Anyone who senses a hint of arrogance here is mistaken. As he explained after training, the necklace actually belongs to his little sister. He borrowed it from her for Christmas and it is still in her possession. The diamonds aren’t even real. It’s about family ties. He’s not interested in status symbols. Even if he obviously likes to play with his image.

New York Giants: Dart appears confident

Over the next few days, he trained with many no-names who may or may not ever play in the regular season. But he went through the offensive script with them, leading and taking the initiative as if it were a real game situation. Here, too, it becomes clear: he wants to lead. He wants responsibility.

Rookie running back Cam Skattebo confirmed this impression to the local press, saying that Dart is trying to “get on the same level with all the players” and “gain trust.”

Dart had to endure some ridicule on social media when former NFL coach Jon Gruden asked him in a meeting before the draft how his snap count sounded. Dart simply clapped his hands. He didn’t have a reputation of his own.

When asked about this at Giants camp, Dart seemed prepared and grinned slightly arrogantly, but also sarcastically: “Did you hear me out there? I was loud!”

“He’s done a good job in all areas and always shown a good response. It looked good on tape, too,” confirmed head coach Brian Daboll.

The Giants are currently following many of the behind-the-scenes processes with their own camera crew so that fans can get an impression of how the initial adjustments are working.

New York Giants: No pressure on Dart, despite potential

Daboll flatly rejected the idea that Dart could be in contention for the starting job this season: “His job is to be ready when he’s needed. Until then, he should prepare himself and internalize our processes. As a rookie quarterback, you have a lot to learn.”

General manager Joe Schoen echoed this sentiment: “He has a lot to learn. With Wilson and Winston, he has top quarterbacks to learn from. There’s no better place to be.”

The Giants sound euphoric when they talk about darts. But they are trying hard not to overdo it so that the pressure doesn’t get too much.
