The never-ending story of Jakob Johnson in the NFL continues. Just days after his release from the New York Giants, the German fullback returned to the team’s practice squad. Now he’s been released again. The 29-year-old announced this on social media in a short video message.

“Anyone who has followed me a bit this year has noticed that I have been going through a lot of ups and downs,” said the Stuttgart native. ‘Practice squad, active roster, then back on the street.’ The question he gets most often is, ”Jakob, how does this affect you?”

While he would like to say that he is “pissed off” or “emotionally exhausted,” that simply isn’t true: “Hard work and how much hard work you put in still doesn’t guarantee you the results you want. As much as I want to play again, as much as I want to make year six a success, how hard I work is not defined by what kind of result I get.”

Johnson took over shortly before the Munich Game from kicker Jude McAtamney, who was promoted to the active roster before the game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. In turn, the actual starting kicker Greg Joseph was placed on the IR list.
