After the resignation of Dave Gettleman, the New York Giants have become the first team to hire a new general manager in the 2022 calendar year. Joe Schoen joins from the Buffalo Bills and is now expected to get the New York franchise back on track for success.
Munich – Good news for the New York Giants. As the franchise from New York announced, Joe Schoen will be the new General Manager in the “Big Apple”. Schoen was previously assistant general manager with the Buffalo Bills.
A possible rebuild now awaits him at the Giants. For years the franchise has been somewhere in the middle of nowhere, in the current season the “G-Men” celebrated only four victories.
Head coach Joe Judge has already been fired, quarterback Daniel Jones has so far failed to establish himself as a long-term solution at the position and the Giants face a lot of difficult roster planning tasks – the team’s cap space, as of today, is minus five million US dollars.
Schoen as Giants GM: Focus on the draft
In his Bills days, Schoen repeatedly let it be known that the draft and the accompanying development of “own” players was a high priority for him. Among other things, the Giants have two first-round picks in the upcoming draft and may select fifth and seventh.
The search for a new head coach will also fall to Schoen. Brian Daboll, who currently serves as offensive coordinator for the Bills, is now coming into focus as a potential candidate.
