NFL – New York Giants: Draft flop Evan Neal gets new position

Since Evan Neal joined the New York Giants, the offensive lineman has rarely impressed. Now he is apparently set to be given a new position.

In 2022, Evan Neal was considered one of the best – if not the very best – offensive tackles in the NFL Draft. It was no surprise that the New York Giants selected him seventh overall. He was expected to fix the major problems in the offensive line.

However, Neal has virtually never managed to live up to the high expectations. When the Alabama University graduate wasn’t injured, he disappointed with his performances in the all-important tackle position.

Now the Giants apparently have a new plan for the former flop: According to the New York Post, the 24-year-old is to be moved to the guard position.

New York Giants: Evan Neal will play out his contract

The main reason for this is said to be Neal’s playing style: according to various metrics, he performs significantly better in the running game than in the passing game. However, the outside tackles must be able to hold their own against pass rushers.

Further signs: The Giants signed James Hudson and Stone Forsythe for the right tackle position in the offseason.

For Neal, it’s also about his future: His fifth-year option can be exercised this offseason. However, since that is unlikely, he will have to apply for a new contract in the coming season.
