NFL – Monday Night Game: Aaron Rodgers no chance in comeback for the Jets against the 49ers

Aaron Rodgers is back! But his return after a serious injury was anything but successful

Aaron Rodgers was back on the pitch a year after suffering a serious injury in the opening game of last season, but had no chance in his comeback with the New York Jets.

Gang Green deserved to lose 19:32 at the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners were already 16:7 ahead at the break, after the Jets had led 7:3 after the first quarter thanks to a touchdown by Breece Hall.

In the end, however, the four-time regular-season MVP, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon at the start of the first game last season, was clearly beaten.

Being back on the field “feels great,” said Rodgers despite the defeat. He was “very grateful” that he was able to play again: “So many people helped me get to this point.” It had taken a few moments, but “once I threw a few balls, it felt good,” he added.

The star quarterback’s statistics were also only average with 13/21 for 167 yards and a touchdown with an interception. Curious: Of all people, Leonard Floyd, whose sack in September 2023 had injured him so badly, also sacked Rodgers in this game – but this time without any consequences for the 40-year-old.

His touchdown pass to Allen Lazard only came with 7:26 remaining.

The 49ers, recently defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, were also able to cope with the short-term absence of Christian McCaffrey due to injury.

Niners quarterback Brock Purdy did not score a touchdown, but he also did not throw an interception, and his 19/29 passes for 231 yards were also impressive. Jordan Mason and Debo Samuel Jr. scored the hosts’ two rushing touchdowns.

Kicker Jake Moody did the rest with six field goals.
