The targeted contract extension for Micah Parsons is likely to be a financial challenge for the Dallas Cowboys. The outside linebacker has a huge sum in mind.
Micah Parsons also wants to get off to a flying financial start. The 25-year-old outside linebacker firmly believes in a long-term contract with the Dallas Cowboys.
However, patience is still required. According to information from “DLLS Sports”, there have not yet been any concrete talks between the Cowboys and Parsons’ agent David Mulegheta. Nevertheless, the NFL professional is not worried about his contract situation and has already exchanged ideas with owner Jerry Jones and vice-chairman Stephen Jones at the training ground.
It is quite likely that negotiations will really get underway shortly and that a lot of money will be discussed. Parsons, who was drafted by the Cowboys in 2021, played for a base salary of $3 million last season.
But that’s not the end of the story. Although Parsons said last year that he doesn’t need $40 million a year, a lot has changed since then.
NFL: More than $40 million for Micah Parsons?
Myles Garrett and Ja’Marr Chase have shown that the market for non-quarterbacks can also reach $40 million. According to the report, Parsons is expected to exceed the average $40.25 million and the player himself believes that $40 million is possible for him.
“I’ve been playing for the last few years at two and three million dollars. I think if I had 40 million dollars, I’d be the happiest person on earth,” said the star defender.
Parsons rants on social media: “Wake up!”
The Dallas Cowboys will have to be prepared for the fact that Parsons and his agent are tough negotiators. Mulugheta has recently negotiated top deals for Jaycee Horn and Derek Stingley, leading Parsons to fire against other agents.
“Some agents don’t have your best interests at heart. Wake up!” the Dallas star rumbled via social media. It’s ”sad to see some players getting taken advantage of by teams because their agents lack decorum and commitment.”
Despite the cost factor, it is likely to be important for the Cowboys to retain the 25-year-old in the long term. After all, Parsons already has four Pro Bowls, two All-Pro nominations and 52.5 sacks in four years. The outside linebacker is crucial to keeping the Cowboys’ Super Bowl dreams alive.
