NFL: “Means everything to me!” Odell Beckham Jr. is in the Super Bowl with Los Angeles Rams

Just a few months ago, Odell Beckham Jr. is deeply unhappy with the Cleveland Browns, switches locations and is now in the Super Bowl with the L.A. Rams. The wide receiver is on an impressive journey.

Munich/Los Angeles – If you took a look at social media after the NFC Championship Game, one very special moment kept coming up.

No, it was not an impressive touchdown, nor was it the decisive field goal or the cheers of the victorious Los Angeles Rams after the end of the game.

It was a small, interpersonal moment between Odell Beckham Jr. and Deebo Samuel that softened the hearts of the fans.

OBJ comforts Deebo Samuel

Samuel, the San Francisco 49ers’ all-purpose weapon responsible for a 44-yard touchdown, wept bitter tears after his team’s narrow 17-20 loss and playoff exit. The 29-year-old took the three-year-old Samuel in his arms, comforted him and offered loving words.

Few would have expected Beckham Jr. to be at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on 13 February 2022 to play in his first Super Bowl with the Rams just a few months ago.

In 2018, he moved from the New York Giants to the Cleveland Browns with high hopes – and was bitterly disappointed. “The past two years, I’ve felt robbed,” the receiver stated just a few weeks ago.

Hard time with the Browns is forgotten

There was no harmony with quarterback Baker Mayfield, and there were no notable successes either. After mutual accusations, in which OBJ’s father was also heavily involved, the athlete was finally dismissed from the team. This was the beginning of a new and much more successful chapter.

The 29-year-old has already scored six touchdowns since joining the Rams in early November. In the Wild Card Game against the Cardinals, he even managed to set an NFL record. He was the first player in league history to record a catch and a pass of at least 30 yards in a game.

He also showed all his class in the Championship Game. Although he did not score a touchdown and fellow receiver Cooper Kupp was thrown to twice instead, OBJ’s contribution to his team’s success was nevertheless immense. He completed nine passes for 113 yards for himself and his franchise, including important catches on the sideline.

Juicy bonuses for OBJ in the playoffs

Just like his quarterback Matthew Stafford, the pass receiver is in the Super Bowl for the first time in his career. He couldn’t really grasp that fact. “This means everything to me. I’ve been through a lot. I prayed and God heard me. So I have to enjoy the moment,” he explained after the game.

Moreover, he explained that the move to the Californian metropolis “felt right in my heart and soul. “

The commitment has also paid off financially. In November, OBJ signed a heavily performance-based contract that guarantees him “only” $1.25 million in base salary through the end of the season but is tied to postseason success. He received half a million US dollars for winning the Wild Card Round, and 750,000 euros each for victories in the Divisional Round and the Championship Game.

OBJ’s three playoff victories have already brought him two million. If the Super Bowl were to be added, another million would go into his account.

Beckham Jr. “integrated into plan” at Rams

All the extra income should only be a bonus for the receiver. He’s much more excited about being “integrated into the plan” with the Rams, as he put it after the game against the 49ers.

“Taking me in, pushing me to do my best, the weight room – everything about this place is right and being done right. It was just an unbelievable opportunity. And now we’re playing in the Super Bowl and we’re one game away from our dreams.”

What happens next for the 29-year-old after the season is still completely unclear. But one thing is clear: In just three months with the Rams, he has reminded the entire league again why he was once considered the best receiver ever.
