Puka Nacua is only entering his third NFL season. But the Los Angeles Rams wide receiver already has a clear idea of what he wants his life to be like after his career.
Actually, Puka Nacua is not yet at an age where he should be worrying about an early end to his NFL career.
The 23-year-old wide receiver for the Los Angeles Rams has only had two seasons, so he is still relatively early in his career. But he recently made it clear that football should not be the center of his life forever.
In March, Nacua said that he plans to retire from the NFL and hang up his football helmet when he turns 30. “I’m thinking of Aaron Donald, who retired at the top. That would be really cool,” he said.
And after that? The 2023 fifth-round pick revealed in the “Games with Names” podcast how he wants to continue after his NFL career. In it, he imagined a future as a professional basketball player outside the U.S. – preferably in an exotic country.
Puka Nacua wants to be a coach and player at the same time
“I want to play basketball overseas. I’m sure that I can go to a country that only 25 percent of the world has heard of, that I’ll be part of the team and that I’ll make 25 shots every night,” Nacua said.
But being a player alone is not enough for him. “I’ll be the coach. I’ll substitute myself for a few minutes, and after that I’ll make sure we sell tickets. I’ll try to run a real business,” he said, outlining his plans.
His passion for basketball is no accident. Before he finally decided on football, Nacua was also active on his high school’s basketball team. It is possible that he will return to his old love in a few years.
