NFL – Los Angeles Rams: Is Jalen Ramsey an option?

Jalen Ramsey no longer has a future with the Miami Dolphins. What about a return to the Rams? Coach Sean McVay weighs in.

Jalen Ramsey would actually be a logical trade for the Los Angeles Rams. The star cornerback would bring quality to the team. It would also be a return for him, as he played in LA from 2019 to 2022.

But what looks logical is complicated in reality. There has been no deal yet, even though it has been clear for some time that Ramsey and the Miami Dolphins want to go their separate ways.

Rams coach Sean McVay does not want to rule out a deal, but pointed to “obstacles.”

“Usually, these are situations where you have to have a plan in place before you can even make decisions like this,” McVay said. “I definitely don’t want to rule anything out — we’re always open to bringing high-caliber players and personalities like him to the team if possible. But there are also real obstacles that could potentially prevent such a deal from happening.”

Jalen Ramsey: Finances are an issue

What McVay probably means: the financial side of the deal. Ramsey will receive a salary of $24.3 million in the coming season. In 2026, his base salary will increase to $10 million. In addition, his cap hit will also increase in the coming years from $16.6 million in 2025 to $36 million in 2028.

At the same time, a trade would of course also involve compensation for the Dolphins, who would have to accommodate any interested parties.

Therefore, it currently looks more likely that the Rams will start the new season with Darious Williams and Ahkello Witherspoon as starters. Behind them, Cobie Durant, Emmanuel Forbes, Josh Wallace, and the recently re-signed Derion Kendrick are vying for playing time.
