The Green Bay Packers have signed German kicker Dominik Eberle. The 25-year-old can now prove himself. But how big are his chances of kicking in Green Bay in the long term?
Munich – Dominik Eberle is back in the NFL. The Green Bay Packers have signed the 25-year-old. But what will happen next with the Nuremberg native? And does Eberle have a chance to sink kicks in Wisconsin next season?

As of now, the Green Bay Packers have three kickers on the roster. Mason Crosby, who has played for the team since 2007, JJ Molsen and Dominik Eberle. The German’s first goal must be to assert himself against Molson. The latter was signed by the team on 25 January and has not yet played in the NFL.
Unlike Eberle, who made his NFL debut last season. In Week 16, he made two of three field goals (one from 51 yards) and converted five of five extra points in a 41-29 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. He didn’t make another subsequent appearance due to a Corona infection.
Can Dominik Eberle assert himself against Mason Crosby?
However, he caused a stir with his good performance. Now the Packers have secured his services. He was more than happy about it: “It’s unbelievable that I can now be a part of such a traditional team. I’m looking forward to becoming a Cheesehead and living in Green Bay. I’m looking forward to the first game, to the preseason, to training camp. I’m going to give it my all and then we’ll see what comes out of it.”
Whether he will eventually get past kicking legend Mason Crosby remains to be seen. Although Crosby has been an institution in Green Bay since 2007, the 37-year-old’s form was weaker last season. The veteran converted only 73.5 percent of his field goals. It was the second worst value of his career (only in 2021 was he worse with 63.8 percent).
If Eberle convinces the Packers’ officials in training camp and Crosby continues to weaken at the start of the season, the German could indeed soon take his place as the Green Bay Packers’ kicker. But of course a lot can happen before then. Good for Eberle: With wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, he has a German teammate who should make it easier for him to get used to the Super Bowl winner of 2010.
