The Kansas City Chiefs win in a thrilling game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers only in overtime
The Kansas City Chiefs have continued their winning streak and also won their eighth game, but had to go into overtime in the Monday Night Game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won by the narrow margin of 30:24.
With 27 seconds left in regulation, Buccaneers corner Ryan Miller intercepted a pass from Baker Mayfield to tie the game. In overtime, the Chiefs got the ball first and finished a 10-play drive with a touchdown. Kareem Hunt ran into the end zone for the win.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 34 of his 44 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns. He injured his ankle and limped, but was able to continue playing. “We did a lot of things well early in the game, but couldn’t finish the drives,” Mahomes said after the game. “Kareem then took it upon himself to run the ball. We got it done in the end.”
Tampa Bay quarterback DeAndre Hopkins completed 23 of his 31 pass attempts for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Both playmakers went the entire game without an interception.
Hopkins with two touchdowns
DeAndre Hopkins, who was traded to the Chiefs from the Tennessee Titans on October 24, had an outstanding game. He was targeted nine times, catching eight passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns. “He wins his one-on-one matchups, I trust him,” Mahomes said.
Tight end Travis Kelce recorded 100 receiving yards, but also fumbled the only turnover of the game.
On the Buccaneers’ side, defensive tackle Vita Vea stood out with ten tackles and two sacks. Fellow defensive tackle Calijah Kancey also had two sacks.
The Chiefs are the only undefeated team in the NFL and have an 8-0 record. The Buccaneers, on the other hand, lost their third game in a row and now have a 4-5 record.
