The NFL Draft 2025 marks the start of the new season for the league. Numerous college players will be selected by the 32 franchises and can live their dream of a career in the NFL.

The mega-event will take place in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from April 24 to 26. The draft will be held around the legendary Lambeau Field, home of the Green Bay Packers franchise.

Update April 16: Giants make tempting offer to Hunter

Travis Hunter has repeatedly emphasized in recent times that he wants to play both cornerback and wide receiver in the NFL (see previous entries).

This demand has a certain significance for the draft, as the team that picks him should also be willing to play the top prospect on both offense and defense.

One of those teams is likely to be the New York Giants, who have the third pick in this year’s draft. “We wouldn’t shy away from playing him on both sides of the ball,” New York general manager Joe Schoen said in a press conference ahead of the draft.

One thing is clear: the Giants have a young top receiver in Malik Nabers, and Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton are also decent options for New York’s presumed starting quarterback Russell Wilson.

In the secondary, however, there is more room for improvement. Schoen did not elaborate on exactly how the Giants would use Hunter in the two positions.

Update April 16: Ravens coach Harbaugh counters Hunter

Travis Hunter made an announcement shortly before the draft (see previous entry). The question is: Will a team give him the opportunity to show his class on both sides of the ball?

For Ravens coach John Harbaugh, it will be “interesting to see how they do it, wherever he goes,” Harbaugh said during a press conference before the draft. “But to say that you’re going to dive completely into everything there is to know about offense and defense — I don’t know if there are enough hours in the day for a player to do that and know every detail.”

His suggestion: “I think you could do it on one side of the ball and then have some kind of package on the other side of the ball. But I assume we’re going to play against him, so we’ll find out right away how the team does it.”

Division rival Cleveland Browns is considered a likely destination for Heisman winner Hunter.

Update April 15: Top prospect Travis Hunter sends message to NFL teams

Travis Hunter is considered one of the most promising college talents in this year’s NFL draft. What makes the 21-year-old, who played for the Colorado Buffaloes from 2023, so special is his versatility on the football field.

Hunter can play both wide receiver on offense and cornerback on defense. This is anything but common in the NFL. While various players can play multiple positions, it is extremely rare to see them play both offense and defense.

Nevertheless, Hunter wants to maintain his flexibility and has therefore announced that he wants to play pass defender and receiver in the NFL. Otherwise, he would even consider quitting football.

“That would be it for football,” Hunter said ahead of the draft when asked how he would feel if he were only allowed to play offense or defense. ”I’ve done it my whole life, I love being on the field. I feel like I can dominate on both sides of the ball. I really enjoy it.”

There is a similar example in the US professional baseball league MLB in Shohei Ohtani. The Japanese player is both a pitcher and a hitter for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ohtani is considered one of the best in his sport.

Update April 15: Giants invite Sanders to workout

The New York Giants are reorganizing their quarterback room. With Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson, two QBs have already been signed recently. However, it seems possible that general manager Joe Schoen may still want to add another player in the draft.

The Giants have invited QB Shedeur Sanders to a private workout ahead of the event. The Colorado College player is still being linked with the New Orleans Saints as a possible landing spot, but the Giants already have a pick at number three. The Saints are not until number nine.

Update April 14: Sanders defends himself after discussion about “patting”

Ahead of the draft, experts and NFL pros are publicly discussing Shedeur Sanders and his ball handling. The quarterback has developed a habit of touching the ball with his left hand before throwing it – known as “patting.” This naturally costs additional tenths of a second, which can be decisive in the league.

The first-round candidate addressed the issue for the first time on sports reporter Kay Adams’ podcast “Up & Adams.” “Patting has brought me success so far. It got me where I am today. I don’t see what’s wrong with it,” said the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders.

He added: “Things that aren’t a problem for other people can be a problem for me.” It’s about staying mentally tough, “because you can never look to other people for validation or happiness. You have to find it within yourself and not care what other people say.”

Update April 9: Will the Steelers sign Sanders and Rodgers?

Where Shedeur Sanders ends up after this draft is one of the big questions this offseason. The quarterback is not considered the absolute top prospect, but some teams are likely to have their eye on him.

These include the Pittsburgh Steelers, whom Sanders will visit as part of the top 30 pre-draft visits. The Steelers have the 21st pick, but Sanders would have to drop a place or two in the draft for that to happen.

However, a scenario in which the Steelers sign Rodgers and Sanders is not out of the question. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are history, and Pittsburgh would currently start with Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson.

The Steelers could therefore build a new playmaker duo out of Rodgers and Sanders that would benefit all sides.
