The Washington Commanders have drafted German-American offensive tackle Brandon Coleman in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft
The next German in the NFL!
The Washington Commanders have selected offensive tackle Brandon Coleman with the 67th pick in the third round.
The 23-year-old became a starter in just his second season at Texas Christian University and even made it to captain in his final season in college. In the 2022 season, he even took his team to the National Championship Game against the Georgia Bulldogs.
Coleman will thus protect the franchise’s new hopeful, quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was drafted at number two in the first round.
After the pick, he told “RTL” that he was “speechless and shocked”: “The coaches are mega cool, I’m really happy to be in Washington.”
At the Combine, the O-lineman caused a stir with his impressive athleticism, completing the 40-yard dash in 4.9 seconds – the fifth-best time at his position.
Brandon Coleman originally wanted to play in the NBA
The German-American – his mother is German, his father US-American – left Berlin at the age of 15, originally speculating on a scholarship and a career in basketball.
“When I realized the process was going to turn more into football, I didn’t pursue my original plan of making it to the NBA,” he is quoted as saying on TCU’s homepage.
