Quake in the NFL! Amon-Ra St. Brown gets a monster contract. The Lions not only elevate their receiver to the top of the payroll for his position group, but also give him the unofficial label of “superstar”. A comment
Amon-Ra St. Brown has arrived! Arrived in the NFL, arrived in the Olympus of the NFL. In this country, the 24-year-old German-American’s path has already been followed very closely. Because that’s exactly what he is here: a superstar.
Not many Germans make it into the NFL and certainly not many make it to the elite. St. Brown has proven himself and is now Germany’s biggest name in the NFL – ever!
At least that’s what the new contract says. Amon-Ra may not (yet) have a Super Bowl title to his name like a Sebastian Vollmer, for example. But St. Brown’s equivalent value can’t be measured in a ring. He is now the franchise!
Amon-Ra accomplished something that even the Super Bowl winner never could. Like St. Brown, the offensive tackle blossomed into an absolute top performer. However, he never became the face of a franchise. To be fair, there was simply no getting past Tom Brady at the New England Patriots.
St. Brown doesn’t just stand for good performances in Detroit. Together with quarterback Jared Goff, he steered the long rebuild of the franchise. With these two cornerstones, the team has improved from year to year. Last season, they made their first playoff appearance in eight years. They even secured their first playoff win in 33 years against the Rams.
Amon-Ra quickly became indispensable. Last season, he contributed 1,515 receiving yards, the third-best figure in the league, and ten touchdowns. Now he is receiving (monetary) recognition from the Lions.
St. Brown signs a mega-contract that could earn him up to 120 million US dollars in the future. 77 million of this is even guaranteed. With an annual salary of around 30 million US dollars, the wide receiver is right up there among the top earners in his position group.
The “Sun God” thus shares the top spot with none other than top pass receiver Tyreek Hill. The Lions put St. Brown on the same level as one of the best receivers of recent years. A two-time Super Bowl champion and eight-time Pro Bowler. An honor for St. Brown, a statement from the Lions.
At the same time, he leaves other big names among wide receivers behind. Davante Adams, Cooper Kupp, Justin Jefferson, just to name a few. By the way, he is now even setting the standard for other receivers’ salary negotiations. St. Brown is leaving the (exclusively) German elite and entering the NFL Hall of Fame.
The Lions are rewarding their superstar for a lion-strong season and quite rightly so
