The incidence of sunlight at AT&T Stadium continues to cause a stir. Star receiver CeeDee Lamb complained after missing a touchdown pass and called for action. Owner Jerry Jones then blew his top.
With 6:34 left in the game, the Dallas Cowboys went belly-up against the Philadelphia Eagles at home in Week 10. In addition to star quarterback Dak Prescott facing the prospect of missing the season, the playoffs are already out of reach at 3-6. But the problems don’t stop there.
In addition to the team’s poor performance, the game also drew criticism of AT&T Stadium. CeeDee Lamb, the team’s star wide receiver, looked up at the sun while running a crossing route in the end zone in the second quarter. Due to the light coming into the stadium, he couldn’t properly see a pass from backup quarterback Cooper Rush and missed what he thought was an almost certain touchdown.

“I couldn’t see.”
Are you in favor of curtains in AT&T stadium?

After the play, the 25-year-old pointed to his eyes and made similar gestures on the sidelines. After the game, Lamb then verbally added. “I couldn’t see the ball, I couldn’t see the ball at all. The sun.”
When asked whether the Cowboys should install curtains on the stadium windows against the massive light falling on the field, Lamb said, “Yes, a thousand percent.”
And that’s not all. When asked by another reporter whether the suggestion should be made to owner Jerry Jones, the classy passer receiver replied unequivocally: “I think you guys are doing my job for me right now.”
NFL: Jerry Jones rants and defends AT&T Stadium
Installing curtains in the stadium to keep the sun out has been suggested many times, but Jones has always categorically ruled it out.
The 82-year-old angrily rejected the suggestion again after the defeat to the Eagles, even raising the issue himself after the game without being asked.

“By the way, we know where the sun will be when we flip the coin, so we also know where the damn sun will be in our own stadium,” the franchise owner ranted. “Let’s just tear down the damn stadium and build a new one. Are you kidding me?”
While Jones’ response could be interpreted as criticism of the controversial head coach Mike McCarthy, the Cowboys boss emphasized that it was not. “Every team that comes here has the same problems. They know where the sun will be. Every team has the same problems.”
And further: “I’m not saying it’s because of McCarthy. I’m just saying the world knows where the sun is. We find out almost a year in advance. So someone asked me about the sun. What about the sun? Where is the moon? We’re fine. But out here, everyone plays in the sun,” Jones elaborated.
As usual, Jones is highly sensitive to criticism of the $1.2 billion stadium with its retractable roof and glass doors and windows on both sides. AT&T Stadium has an unusual east-west orientation from end zone to end zone: most NFL stadiums, however, are oriented north-south. On a clear day, the sun shines through the windows on the west side during the first half of games that start in the afternoon.
