Around the franchise, the quarterback’s future is a big topic, but not for the playmaker himself, as he emphasizes.

“I don’t play for money,” Prescott said. “I’ve never cared about it, to be honest with you. Yeah, I’d give it up just to play this game.”

With all due respect, that might be an exaggeration, but Prescott’s composure is evidenced by the fact that he’s testing free agency if need be – he has a no-tag clause, so the team can’t lock him up for another season.

There is also a no-trade clause, so he has his future completely in his own hands. So there should be a payday for him either way.

The Cowboys’ problem: Prescott won’t get any cheaper.

Recently, quarterbacks have gotten a lot of money for contract extensions. Jared Goff will receive 212 million dollars for four years with the Detroit Lions.

For Prescott, this is probably just the basis for negotiations.

He leaves it up to the businessmen to say what he is worth. “For me, it’s about controlling what I can control and managing that part, and the rest will take care of itself,” he said.

There’s no question that if he leads the Cowboys not just to the playoffs, but a little deeper into the postseason, his negotiating position will improve immensely.

“Business is business,” he said. “Right now, it’s about doing my best for this team, in this moment, in OTAs and helping these guys. I’m just focusing on that and I know my business will take care of itself. I’ve been in this situation before, so I’m experienced and I’m just controlling what I can at the moment,” he said.
