After CeeDee Lamb’s contract was restructured, the Dallas Cowboys also restructured quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract. This will give the Texans plenty of cap space.
The Dallas Cowboys have taken what may be a decisive step in their ability to significantly strengthen their team in the upcoming NFL free agency period.
According to media reports, the Texans restructured quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract. In the process, $45.75 million in salary was converted into a signing bonus, the cap hit of which will be spread over the coming years.
In doing so, “America’s team” created additional cap space of $36.6 million for the 2025 season. Prescott’s personal cap hit will drop to $52.9 million in 2025, but will rise significantly again in the years to come.
Prescott signed a record contract
The 31-year-old signed a record four-year, $240 million contract last fall, starting in 2025. With a $60 million average salary, he became the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history.
Even before the restructuring of Prescott’s contract, the Cowboys had already added $20 million of additional room by similarly adjusting wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s contract.
This gives the Cowboys a total of $54 million for the upcoming free agency period and for signing the rookies after the upcoming draft. After a more than disappointing preseason, the Cowboys want to attack the playoff spots again in 2025.
