NFL: Dallas Cowboys refuse to release Mike McCarthy – Pete Carroll invited to interview for Bears

The Chicago Bears are looking for a new head coach. But that doesn’t interest the Dallas Cowboys. They are interested in a 73-year-old man.

Another change instead of a breakthrough.

As has almost become a tradition, a cold wind is blowing through Chicago. The “Windy City” is once again looking for a new head coach for its NFL team.

Despite a lot of investments and changes, the Bears couldn’t get their record above 5-12. Matt Eberflus was already fired at the beginning of December.

Interim coach Thomas Brown has been in charge ever since. General manager Ryan Poles promised Brown an interview for the permanent job, but is also looking at other candidates. One lead led to Dallas.

Coaching position: Cowboys turn down Bears

Because the Dallas Cowboys, in the form of owner Jerry Jones, have not yet agreed on how the franchise wants to position itself for the new season.

This hesitation plays into the Bears’ hands. Apparently, they were interested in current Dallas coach Mike McCarthy as their new head coach. Several “ESPN” sources report this.

However, the Cowboys are not giving their approval – a right they have until January 14 if they want to extend McCarthy’s contract by then. “I don’t want anyone here who doesn’t want to be here,” Jerry Jones already hinted at Ezekiel Elliott, whom he released so that he could play in the playoff with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Therefore, it now stands to reason that McCarthy will continue or at least negotiate it. He himself has already publicly stated that he “absolutely” wants to stay in Dallas. He has been the Cowboys’ coach since 2020. This is the second time since then that he has missed the playoffs with the team. His record in the regular season is positive at 49-35, but in the playoffs he is 1-3.

Pete Carroll back on the sidelines – in Chicago?

However, another well-known coach will be in Chicago for a meeting on Thursday: Pete Carroll.

The coaching legend of the Seattle Seahawks is apparently keen on a job on the sidelines again after a year off. According to ESPN Insider, the 73-year-old is very interested in the opportunities with the Bears.

The Bears have also asked the Buffalo Bills for permission to talk to their offensive coordinator Joe Brady. Former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is also to be invited.

As well as Ben Johnson (offensive coordinator, Detroit Lions), Arthur Smith (offensive coordinator, Pittsburgh Steelers) and Brian Flores (defensive coordinator, Minnesota Vikings).
