The Dallas Cowboys have secured the services of another offensive player for the long term. Tight end Jake Ferguson has signed a new contract.
While pass rusher Micah Parsons continues to wait for his payday, the Dallas Cowboys have made some big moves elsewhere. Tight end Jake Ferguson has been signed to the franchise on a long-term deal.
According to multiple reports, the 26-year-old received a four-year contract worth $52 million. That includes a signing bonus of $12 million, with guarantees totaling $30 million.
Ferguson was picked in the fourth round of the 2022 draft and is entering the final year of his rookie contract. After a rather unremarkable first year in the NFL, he really took off in his second season.
Jake Ferguson comes off a difficult season
In 2023, he racked up 761 receiving yards and five touchdowns, followed by a Pro Bowl selection. In the Wild Card Round against the Green Bay Packers, he scored three touchdowns on his own, but the Cowboys were eliminated nonetheless.
However, Ferguson was unable to build on these performances last season. He remained below the 500-yard mark and did not score a single touchdown. In addition to quarterback Dak Prescott’s injury, he also had to contend with his own problems, including a knee injury and a concussion that cost him two games.
“I definitely wasn’t happy with how I played last year,” Ferguson said back in June. “I don’t think I’ve ever played a whole season without scoring a touchdown. That was something I really worked on this offseason. I just tried to focus on those things,” he said.
