Cooper Kupp is playing a historically good season. In the last game against the San Francisco 49ers, the wide receiver of the Los Angeles Rams can set two new NFL records. However, due to the new “17-game season”, he demands that the records should be marked with an asterisk.
Munich – Cooper Kupp is having a fabulous season. The wide receiver is on the verge of securing the prestigious “Triple Crown”. He would be only the fourth player after Jerry Rice (1990), Sterling Sharpe (1992) and Steve Smith (2005) to lead the “Receptions”, “Touchdown Receptions” and “Receiving Yards” categories at the end of the season.
Two records within reach
With 1,829 receiving yards, 15 touchdowns and 138 catches, Kupp also has a chance to break the records for receptions (Kupp is 12 catches shy of a new record) and receiving yards (Kupp is 136 yards shy) in a season. If he accomplishes that, however, it should always be noted that the records were set in 17 games.
“What those guys (Rice, Sharpe and Smith; ed.) have done in 16 games, I don’t know, it doesn’t feel right to break the records in 17 games, Kupp said. Continuing, he explained, “It wouldn’t be the same. You have to differentiate those two things.”
Kupp has already qualified for the playoffs with the Los Angeles Rams. With a win in the final game of the season against the San Francisco 49ers, the Rams could also secure their third NFC West title in five years.
Kupp is humble
Kupp subordinates everything to success. Even the possible records. When asked if records matter to him, the wide receiver replied, “My priorities are to go out there, give it my all and win. I just want to do my job and help the team be victorious.”
Either way, Cooper Kupp has played one of the best receiver seasons in NFL history. Now he’s looking to gold plate it with a deep playoff run (and maybe a record or two).
