NFL: Chicago Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy Tests Positive for Corona

One day after the loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Head Coach Matt Nagy of the Chicago Bears tests positive for the Corona virus.

Munich – The coronavirus continues to be a constant companion in the NFL this season.

As the Chicago Bears announced on Monday, head coach Matt Nagy was found positive during a routine test. Accordingly, the 43-year-old immediately went into quarantine.

Special Teams Coordinator takes over

Because all coaches in the NFL must be vaccinated, Nagy could clear himself after just five days if he can produce two negative tests within 48 hours. Whether he can be on the sidelines for next Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers is therefore not yet certain.

In the meantime, Special Teams Coordinator Chris Tabor will take over from Nagy and is expected to run the team meetings. “It’s a reminder to all of us to continue to be cautious and disciplined,” Nagy said in a statement.

On Sunday, the head coach was still on the sidelines for the face-off against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Nothing is known about possible further positive tests so far.

With a record of three wins and four losses, Nagy’s role with the Bears remains controversial from a sporting perspective. Among experts, he is considered one of the coaching candidates who will have to fear for their job at the end of the season.
