NFL – Chicago Bears: Caleb Williams broke down in tears during losing streak

Caleb Williams’ rookie season was anything but exhilarating. He ended up with only five wins. Quarterback Caleb Williams revealed that this has been weighing heavily on him.

Hardly any player generated as much hype before the draft as quarterback Caleb Williams. The former USC Trojans playmaker had been the clear-cut first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft for months, even years.

However, after a promising start with four wins from their first six games, the Chicago Bears completely collapsed with Williams and won only one of their last eleven games.

It was a losing streak that took its toll on the playmaker. “I’ve never lost so many games, to be honest,” he said in an interview with Esquire. “When I came home after the games, I would sometimes lie down in my bed and cry. I was physically and emotionally exhausted.”

As draconian as the Bears quarterback’s statements sound, he also draws positives from the losing streak. “I think those losses were pretty important for me and my development,” explains the 23-year-old.

“Having a streak of bad luck, being at this point and taking control was definitely important for me. Learning how to behave in bad times,” Williams continues.

For his second year, the Bears have made sure that there won’t be a second disastrous season: Chicago has landed Ben Johnson, arguably the most sought-after head coach in the league.
