After posting an ambiguous photo on social media, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has apologized and deleted the image.
It has now been 18 years since Michael Vick pleaded guilty in a US federal court for his involvement in illegal dog fighting. Today, Vick’s years of animal cruelty are hardly discussed anymore—the former quarterback now serves as head coach at Norfolk State University.
However, the issue resurfaced this week after Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray posted a photo of himself wearing a Michael Vick jersey from his time at Virginia Tech. In the photo, he is posing with his American Bulldog.
Arizona Cardinals: Kyler Murray apologizes
Murray apologized at a press conference on Wednesday. “I do not condone animal cruelty or dog fighting in any way,” Murray said. “My two American Bulldogs are treated like royalty. I do not support anything like that in any way. But yes, I saw how it affected some people, and that’s why I deleted the picture. I apologize to anyone I hurt or affected,” Murray continued. The quarterback, who was nine years old at the time of the dogfighting scandal at Vick’s estate, made it clear that no connection to Vick’s past was intended.
