NFL: Caleb Williams to miss Chicago Bears preseason opener – what’s the status of the No. 1 pick?

The Chicago Bears head coach reveals his plans for the upcoming preseason opener. Star quarterback Caleb Williams, among others, still has to be patient

Bears rookie Caleb Williams has to postpone his debut: The quarterback and several other regulars will not suit up for the Hall-of-Fame Game. Coach Matt Eberflus has now made the announcement.

According to media reports, Tyson Bagent will be in the starting line-up against the Houston Texans on Thursday (Friday night CEST) in place of the No. 1 pick.

However, there is no doubt that Williams will be an immediate fixture for the Bears after his convincing performances for the Oklahoma Sooners and USC Trojans. The fact that Justin Fields was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers also speaks for the great confidence in the 22-year-old.

Although Williams was not quite able to match his 2022 performance last season, he was still one of the best players in his position.

Among other things, the US American shone with 3,633 yards and 30 touchdowns. He could give a foretaste of the upcoming season on August 10. Matt Eberflus’ team will then face the Buffalo Bills.
