NFL: Atlanta Falcons defeat weak Minnesota Vikings in field goal battle

The Atlanta Falcons celebrate their first win of the season on the second match day. Head coach Raheem Morris’ team wins 22-6 against the Minnesota Vikings in a field goal battle.

Quarterback Michael Penix and the Atlanta Falcons celebrate their first win of the season in Week 2 after a bitter 20-23 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the first match day. In a tough game, kicker Parker Romo was ultimately the player of the match with five field goals, scoring the most points in the 22-6 win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Bijan Robinson was particularly impressive on offense for the Falcons, racking up 168 total yards. Penix was merely the game manager, completing 13 of 21 passes for 135 yards. Atlanta moved the ball well throughout the game, but repeatedly stalled in the red zone and didn’t score the game’s only touchdown until late in the game, when the outcome had already been decided. Tyler Allgeier ran the ball five yards into the end zone for the final score.

Minnesota Vikings: J.J. McCarthy experiences a disastrous evening

The Minnesota Vikings never really got their offense going. Rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy in particular struggled visibly, ultimately managing only 158 yards and two interceptions. He was also sacked six times.

Minnesota also had little success in the running game. To make matters worse, center Ryan Kelly suffered a concussion and running back Aaron Jones injured his thigh.
