NFL – Amon-Ra St. Brown wants to play with the Detroit Lions in Germany: “It would be really exciting.”

Amon-Ra St. Brown has not yet played abroad with the Detroit Lions. The star receiver is particularly hoping for a game in Germany.

Football star Amon-Ra St. Brown is frustrated that he has still not been allowed to play with the Detroit Lions in Germany. “Every team has played outside the country except us,” the 26-year-old said at a media roundtable ahead of Sunday’s important matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is now in his fifth NFL season. Since 2022, at least one regular-season game of the US professional league has been played in Germany every year. The Indianapolis Colts, for example, have been chosen twice, but Detroit, with its strong German-American St. Brown, has not yet had a chance. The last time the Lions played an international game was several years ago. The franchise last played on international soil in 2015, when they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in London.

NFL in Germany: Amon-Ra St. Brown has hope

But St. Brown has hope. “That would be really exciting,” said St. Brown. “If we played in Germany, my mother would probably be more excited than I am. I asked her how many tickets she would need, and she said ‘50, 60,’ and I said, ‘That’s crazy.’”

St. Brown, whose mother Miriam is German, is eager to play in his second home. “It would be a lot of fun to play in Germany. I’ve spent a lot of time there, I speak the language, I understand the culture,” said the NFL pro, emphasizing the special role of the fans – also because of the number one sport. “They sing throughout the whole game. In soccer, there aren’t really any breaks. They would probably be loud throughout the whole game.”

The NFL will be coming to Germany until at least 2029. In 2026 and 2028, games will be played in Munich, and in 2027 and 2029 in Berlin.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the Lions have already been informed that they will play an international game in the 2026 season.
