With a media ban on backup quarterbacks, the New York Giants are violating NFL regulations. Now Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston are appearing before the press after all.
A remarkable story surrounding the New York Giants: In recent weeks, the NFL franchise has consistently refused to allow its backup quarterbacks to speak to the media. According to NBC Sports, the team has blatantly violated the media rules of the world’s best football league. Neither rookie Jaxson Dart nor veteran Jameis Winston were allowed to speak to the press.
Last weekend, after a bitter 6-21 defeat to the Washington Commanders, Dart had signaled his willingness to answer questions from the media. However, according to NJ.com, team staff prevented him from doing so. According to NFL regulations, all players must make themselves available to journalists for interviews after a game and once a week. The Giants had consistently refused to allow Dart and Winston to do so. Until now.
Giants quarterbacks face the press
Now, ahead of their second game of the season against the Dallas Cowboys, both playmakers faced questions from reporters.
Notably, head coach Brian Daboll recently seemed to be at least considering a change at the QB position from Russell Wilson to Jaxson Dart. When asked about this, the rookie said he “doesn’t pay attention to things like that. It’s just the nature of the sport. Whenever you don’t win, people talk.”
