0-9 thrashing, trash talk and post-game gloating: on this occasion, Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady questioned the name of the New Orleans Saints.
Munich – Few opponents have given Tom Brady such a hard time in recent years as the New Orleans Saints. With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brady could not win any of the last four regular-season games against the division rivals.
During the 9-0 defeat, there was a lot of trash talk, a broken tablet and the first game in 15 years that ended without a point on the scoreboard for the 44-year-old. So it should come as no surprise that Brady is not too happy with New Orleans at the moment.
Although the Bucs superstar had a lot of praise for the opponent and again emphasised how strong the defence and the individual class of the team was, he also noted that the name is not entirely appropriate:
“The Saints [in German: Die Heiligen, ed.] are called that, but they are not really “holy”. A Saint would have let us score yesterday. They should rethink their name,” Brady said on his podcast “Let’s Go.”
NFL: Buccaneers and the Saints – names don’t have to be appropriate
Brady suggestion to question the name, the Saints will probably decline with thanks. After all, the Buccaneers – or the “buccaneers” – will also let their identity stand.
Although scoffers might argue that a Buccaneer should actually manage to bag a point against the Saints once in a while.
