NFL: Adrian Peterson arrested after drunk driving

Drunk driving after draft party: Former NFL star Adrian Peterson was arrested in Minnesota.

Former NFL MVP Adrian Peterson was arrested in Minnesota during a traffic stop for driving under the influence, according to ESPN.

Peterson had attended the Minnesota Vikings’ official draft party on Thursday evening and was apparently on his way home when he was stopped by police for speeding.

The 40-year-old was required to take a breathalyzer test, which according to the Minnesota State Patrol showed a blood alcohol level of 1.4—almost twice the legal limit of 0.8 in Minnesota.

Peterson was taken into custody and released a few hours later after posting bail of $4,000.

The former running back is now facing charges of driving under the influence: A court date has already been set for May 9 in Minneapolis.

This is not the first time the Vikings legend has had a run-in with the law: he was charged with domestic violence during his career, and his high debts have recently made headlines.

Peterson is considered one of the best running backs in NFL history. In his 15-year professional career, he ran for a total of 14,918 rushing yards, placing him fifth on the league’s all-time list. He was also the last non-quarterback to be named MVP in 2012.
