The pass receivers of the New York Giants train with a rugby. Wide receiver Darius Slayton explains the reason behind it.
Munich/New York – An unusual picture emerged during the New York Giants’ practice. Wide receiver coach Mike Groh had his players practice not with a football, but with a rugby.
I’m told multiple teams do this – anyone know specifically why? https://t.co/IKXrInH4MV

Slayton: “This training helps “
Pass receiver Darius Slayton explained the point behind it afterwards. “If you catch a rugby 20 times and someone throws you a football after that, the football just seems smaller. These balls are pumped up a bit more so they move in the air even more,” the 25-year-old said. “If the ball hits your palm, the ball is gone. This workout helps you catch the ball better and be a better face-off station. Then when you catch a football, it feels like you’re picking up the ball perfectly with your hands. I’m sure everyone has a different opinion on that. But I find that this training helps.”
So far, it seems to be working well. The Giants are one of the surprise teams of the 2022 season with a record of five wins and one loss.
