Saquon Barkley is looking to bounce back from injury-plagued seasons. The New York Giants plan to make their running back more versatile in the near future to give head coach Brian Daboll’s offense new options. Barkley himself could benefit from that as well.
Munich – After two seasons full of injuries Saquon Barkley wants to attack again and find back to his old strength. The New York Giants even want to bring out completely new strengths of their running back.
According to Ralph Vacchiano of “sny.tv”, the 25-year-old is said to have trained in many different positions during the offseason – as a running back, wide receiver, slot receiver or motion receiver.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll may be looking to implement a new offence. Barkley himself also seems pleased with his potential new roles, according to Vacchiano: “It not only helps me, but it allows the whole offence new opportunities. I haven’t moved around the field this much since college. I even went back and watched some video from my college days.”
At Penn State, his performances were enough to make him the second pick in the entire 2018 draft. He also put up outstanding numbers as a rookie, but since then injuries have continued to trouble him.
Barkley: “I got the confidence back “
“I feel like whenever I have the ball in space, I’m at my best,” Barkley said. “I have the confidence now. Whether it’s between the tackles, outside the tackles, on the outside or whatever. I have confidence in my body again.”
Until now, getting completely healthy has been a problem for Barkley. With the Giants’ new plan to not just send him through the middle between the heavy guys, the 25-year-old may have a better chance of staying fit in the future.
