New York GIants: Head Coach Daboll does not allow for complacency

Brian Daboll has successfully completed his first season as head coach of the New York Giants, but still expects his team to improve

Brian Daboll would actually have every reason to be highly satisfied with his first season as head coach in the NFL. In a complete surprise, he led the New York Giants, who had previously missed the playoffs five years in a row, into the postseason….

But that was not all: the Giants even defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round. Daboll was also named “Coach of the Year”.

However, there is little sign of satisfaction on his part, at least not on the outside.

On the contrary: when a reporter introduced a question to Daboll by listing the Giants’ achievements in 2022, Daboll interrupted him and said: “Yeah, and we got our butts kicked in the playoffs.” That was referring to the 7-38 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The background to this statement should be clear: Daboll wants his players to focus on what they need to improve, not rest on their laurels.

Daboll: “We have a long way to go “

“We have a long way to go in terms of time, and we have a long way to go to improve,” he explains. “I’m not saying we are starting from scratch because the players already know our system. There are many things they understand better now than last year. But in terms of where we are and what we need to do, we have a long and steep climb ahead of us.”

One thing seems certain: Daboll will give his team a proper challenge in pre-season to ensure there is no repeat of a game like the one against the Eagles.
