Daniel Jones has signed his new mega contract with the New York Giants. The quarterback now explained why the deal was not only the best possible outcome for him.
Daniel Jones has signed a contract for another four years with the New York Giants. The deal will pay the quarterback a total of $160 million, or just under $40 million a year.
“In a situation like this, you try to do what’s best for you and your family while being part of a team and understanding the team’s goals and vision,” Jones said of the deal. “That was very important to me throughout the negotiation. I think we found a way to do both in the right way for both sides.”
The contract extension allowed the Giants to tie running back Saquon Barkley to the team for another year via franchise tag a little later.
For Jones, this was another coup. Barkley “means a lot to him as a player and as a friend”. Whether the end of the negotiations is also the optimal outcome for Barkley can be doubted. But also for the running back the possibility of a long-term contract may arise in the future.
