Due to salary cap issues, the New York Giants are willing to listen to trade offers for any player – including superstar Saquon Barkley.
New York – Saquon Barkley’s future with the New York Giants is uncertain.
General manager Joe Schoen practically offered his star running back up for trade during an interview on “PFT Live” at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
The background is that the New York Islanders have a salary cap problem. Therefore, he said, one of his main tasks is to “get the cap in order”.
Asked if the team was open to a trade of Barkley, he replied that the team was not in “very good salary-cap health” and “will be open to whatever situations are best for the New York Giants. “
Barkley is in his final year of contract
Further, Schoen stated, “I listen to everybody when it comes to player changes. I’m not going to say we’re open to trades with the whole squad. But if someone calls and is interested in one of our players, I will definitely listen.”
Barkley, who was drafted at No. 2 overall by the Giants in 2018, is in the final year of his contract via the fifth-year option and is set to collect a salary of $7.217 million in the 2022 season. The Giants are currently $11.556 million over cap space.
