Marcus Davenport has had problems with his little finger on his left hand for several years. Now the New Orleans Saints defensive end hopes to be fit in time for the start of practice despite the amputation.
Munich/New Orleans – New Orleans Saints defensive end Marcus Davenport has had the top part of his left pinky finger amputated, according to “ESPN”. He still hopes to be fit for training camp.
According to Davenport, the pinky has been a nagging problem since he first tore his ligaments during his college days in a 2016 bowl game.
Because the problem had worsened over the years, he had surgery for the first time in 2021. However, he then suffered a fracture injury that resulted in three more surgeries and ultimately the amputation of the upper part of the finger.
Davenport sees no impact from amputation
According to the report, Davenport does not believe the amputation will affect his performance. He would have already learned to adapt to the injured finger anyway.
Davenport was drafted at No. 4 overall by the Saints in 2018. Since then, he has totalled 113 tackles and 21 sacks in 48 games. However, he also missed 18 games due to various injuries.
