New Orleans Saints: Derek Carr speaks out on Las Vegas Raiders dismissal: “I was pissed!”

Derek Carr was cut by the Las Vegas Raiders in the spring after nine years. The quarterback has since joined the New Orleans Saints. Now Carr spoke in detail for the first time about his departure from the Raiders.

It was one of the biggest surprises of last winter.

Josh McDaniels, head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, was already under a lot of pressure. It didn’t ease when McDaniels made the decision to kick longtime quarterback Derek Carr off the team. Not only was Carr, a nine-year starter with the Raiders, no longer a starter, he walked away from the team altogether.

Now, several months later, Carr is speaking out for the first time about his dishonorable departure from Nevada.

Carr admits, “I was pissed!”

On the sidelines of an event in California, the 32-year-old candidly said, “I was upset, to say the least. I was pissed,” the playmaker said. “I was there for nine years, nine years at that place, holding all the records and then I didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye to the fans,” Carr further rued.

Then, before Week 16, Jarrett Stidham was promoted to starter. “It sparked something in me. I would have given up the money, too. “

However, the quarterback also knows the mechanics of the NFL. “Logically, if you win games, you stay forever. We didn’t do that,” Carr admits. “Eventually, the last guy in the booth gets replaced. I’ve ‘outlasted’ about 20 coaches, but that’s the way the business is.”

In the end, Carr finishes with the Raiders with 3,201 passes received, 217 touchdowns and 35,222 passing yards – all Raiders franchise records.

Bad blood? Not with Carr

While Derek Carr was extremely upset about leaving Vegas and has long since found a new team with the New Orleans Saints, he didn’t wish ill on his former team.

On the contrary. “I want them to be successful. I wish Jimmy [Garoppolo] success because that means then my friends Davante Adams and Josh Jacobs will be successful too.”

“All my friends are there and I want them to be successful. But,” Carr added with a wink, “the Saints being successful is a little bit more important. “
