Green Bay Packers: Surgery for quarterback Jordan Love

The Green Bay Packers will have to do without Jordan Love for the time being. The quarterback needs surgery. However, the start of the season is not in jeopardy.

Shock for the Green Bay Packers, but the all-clear has been given: Quarterback Jordan Love underwent surgery on his left thumb on Tuesday to repair a ligament injury.

Nevertheless, the Packers expect the star QB to be fit in time for the season opener in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions on September 7.

“The procedure made sense at this point, and now we’re focused on getting him back on the field as soon as possible,” said general manager Brian Gutekunst.

Jordan Love: Injury against the New York Jets

Continuing: “I don’t see us losing him for the long term because of this,” the GM said optimistically.

The injury occurred in Saturday’s preseason opener against the New York Jets when Love was sacked by defensive tackle Jay Tufele on his final play. The 25-year-old initially tried to play on with his thumb taped up – he even trained on Monday and was forced to hand off the ball with his right (throwing) hand. Ultimately, the decision was made to operate to ensure a quick and complete recovery.

Backup quarterback Malik Willis will take over the starting role in training: “The team has to be strong enough to get by without one player. It’s about all eleven on the field,” explains head coach Matt LaFleur.

Love already missed two games last year due to a knee injury – Willis stepped in and won both.
